Enrolment and School Dues

Enrolment forms are available at the School Office or may be requested by telephone and posted out. An appointment is made for parents to meet with the Principal. An appointment will also need to be made to meet our Parish Priest, Father Michael O'Dea. He will need to sign the enrolment form indicating your child's preference status. He can be contacted at the Presbytery, ph 539 1251.

The Bishops’ Council has published guidelines to assist parish priests and schools in deciding which families should be regarded as having a connection with the Special character of a school.

In summary, these are:

  1. The child has been baptised or is being prepared for baptism in the Catholic Church.
  2. The child’s parents/guardians have already allowed one or more of its siblings to be baptised in the Catholic faith.
  3. At least one parent/guardian is a Catholic, and although their child has not yet been baptised, the child’s participation in the life of the school could lead to the parents having the child baptised.
  4. With the agreement of the child’s parent/guardian, a grandparent or other significant adult in the child’s life, such as an aunt, uncle or godparent, undertakes to support the child’s formation in the faith and practices of the Catholic Church.
  5. One or both of a child’s non-Catholic parents/guardians is preparing to become a Catholic.

Please note that it is parish priests and ethnic chaplains who decide whether a child has preference status ... not the principal of the school.

New five year olds, prior to their commencement, are encouraged to visit their future classroom with their parents on at least two occasions to familiarise them with their teacher and the class. Wednesday mornings are ideal. Please contact the school office so that the first of these visits can be arranged.

At St Joseph’s School we are well aware of the importance of working in partnership with parents. We also recognise parents as the child’s first educators.

Attendance Dues, from 2012, will be $96.50 per term or $386 a school year. Automatic payment is encouraged. This fee is a condition of enrolment and attendance at the school. If you are unable to pay this you should contact your Parish Priest or Principal to discuss the possibility of a rebate.

A Parental Donation is also requested per family. This is a voluntary fee, which helps towards the cost of performers in schools and transport costs to the Museum, Beach Study etc.
