How long have you been teaching / teaching at St Joseph’s?
I have been lucky to have taught for 12 years, in amongst taking time to manage a lodge in the Sounds and to raise my young daughters. I have taught at a range of wonderful schools in New Zealand , at an International School in Brasil, and once, in the Sounds, I even had to learn to drive a boat…. to get to my school. 2017 is my 4 th year of teaching at St Joseph’s.
Why did you want to become a teacher?
The children…and I love the creative process of teaching to different children’s needs.
What's it like working with students at the age level you teach?
It is such a buzz to motivate and then see a Junior’s learning light switch on, see them learn something new and then be sooo proud of themselves. Super special. They also think my drawings are “amazing…!”
What do you think sets St Joseph's apart from other schools?
Our community at St Joseph’s is incredibly supportive and caring. The teachers all really know and care for our children and we are lucky to have a range of programmes that supports a range of learning needs. Our trees and gardens are also a pretty gorgeous setting for us all to learn in.
What do you like to do when you're not teaching?
Time with family and friends. Cooking and Feasting! Walking and Biking. Watching my girls grow. Loving the many beautiful beaches and rivers in the Nelson/ Tasman Area.
